His promises and be faithful to us in response to our faith. ’Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him.’ Deuteronomy 7:9. The aim of this covenant is to yoke us together with Him, to enable us to be good people, as He first intended. The result is peace of heart and perfect service, walking together with Him, thinking His thoughts, doing His deeds.
Q10 Where does the goodness of God begin to work in our lives?
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:4
NOTE: God is not interested in changing only the outside. He wants to give us a heart and mind created like His so that we become good through and through, and can live the kind of life like Jesus did when He was on this earth. Thoughts and words and actions that are pure and kind can come only from a new heart. By contrast, ‘The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.’ Psalm 10:4. ‘That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24
Q11 How does God give us this help to change our hearts and minds from the rotting corruption that is around us?
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:4
NOTE: In believing what God has promised, the divine power comes into your life. This can only be experienced by a reverent experiment with God. For example He says we shall be guided into all truth. If we pray to be guided into all truth and are actively looking for clues as to how God is going to answer that prayer, then God will indeed make it real for us. The process will make us more like Jesus, although we ourselves may not see that happening.
There was once a man who knew only three Bible verses, but as he learnt them and repeated them frequently his life changed visibly. He became calmer and more gentle and began to reach out to the needs of others instead of hiding in a hard shell of hurts and bitterness. This is the miracle that is available for us all in the Word of God.
Q12 How much power and faithful consistency is in His Word?
- And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. Genesis 1:3
- For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. Psalm 33:9
- By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. Psalm 33:6
NOTE: God is able to create something from nothing just by speaking.
- Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. They continue this day according to thine ordinances. Psalm 119:90.91.
